An Insider's Guide: My Ultimate PEI Bucket List

Nestled along the Island's stunning North Shore and within the borders of the National Park, Dalvay offers breathtaking views and a glimpse into PEI's rich history. 

Originally built as a vacation property for a wealthy American family, Dalvay is now owned by the Canadian government and is operated as a hotel.

Stroll along the beach, cycle the path along the shore, or explore the historic Dalvay-by-the-Sea Hotel, this picturesque spot is a must-visit. 

Insider tip: You don't have to be a guest at the hotel to explore it's stunning beauty. 

Explore the grounds, sip your fave beverage in an overstuffed chair on the veranda, or read a book in front of the 10 foot stone fireplace. This is my favourite beach, too.

The Canadian Potato Museum

Dive into PEI's agricultural heritage at the Potato Museum, in O'Leary, where you can learn all about the Island's most famous crop. 

Did you know that alpacas and potatoes have something in common?  Yep, they both originate from South America. 

From interactive exhibits to delicious potato-themed treats, this quirky museum offers fun for the whole family.

Insider tip: Try the potato fudge!  It's delicious - really!!

Victoria by the Sea, PEI

Step back in time and explore the charming village of Victoria by the Sea, located about 10 minutes from the Confederation Bridge.

With its colourful storefronts, quaint cafes, and stunning waterfront views, this hidden gem is the perfect place to unwind and soak in the Island's beauty.

Insider tip: Best Fish & Chips on the Island can be found at Richard's Seafood.  Chef's kiss!!

The Bideford Parsonage Museum

L.M. Montgomery's Window into Island Life

The historic residence of PEI’s most famed author, Lucy Maud Montgomery - during her first teaching assignment on the Island in 1894-95, has been carefully restored to accurately reflect life in a rural homestead during the late 19th century.

Venture off the beaten path and you’ll be amply rewarded. This little gem of a museum offers much more than a cursory glimpse into the world of Montgomery and her most famous heroine, Anne of Green Gables.

Insider tip: The famous, "liniment baked into a cake", story has it's origins in an event that happened in this very building.

Backwoods Burger

With all that PEI sightseeing, you're bound to get hungry.  

Satisfy your cravings with a mouthwatering burger from Backwoods Burger, a local favourite known for its delicious homemade patties and creative toppings.  Located minutes from the farm in the village of Tyne Valley.

With options for meat lovers and vegetarians alike, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Insider tip:  Get the dam burger!!!  Really, The Dam Burger is my fave, and named after the Valley Dam.  You can't miss it when you head into the Valley.

Tyne Valley Teas Cafe

Looking for something a little lighter? Take a break and relax with a cup of tea from Tyne Valley Teas, a cozy cafe nestled in the heart of the Tyne Valley, PEI.

With a wide selection of teas to choose from, as well as delicious pastries, snacks, soups, and salads, it's the perfect spot to unwind and recharge while you plan the rest of your Island adventure.

Insider tip: Get the "Montreal Bagel", featuring the original, St. Viateur bagle.

Victoria Row in Charlottetown, PEI

You can't visit PEI without exploring the birthplace of confederation.

Experience the vibrant energy of Charlottetown's historic district at Victoria Row. 

Lined with charming shops, cafes, and restaurants, this pedestrian-friendly street is the perfect place to shop, dine, and soak in the island's culture.

Insider tip: Plan to visit in the evening and grab a table on the patio - the ambiance is stunning!

The Dairy Bar

Visit ANY roadside dairy bar!

This is a true Islander thing.  While most other places on my list will be filled with tourists, the PEI dairy bar is where you'll run into the locals. 

With 55 dairy bars scattered across our Island, you'll probably pass dozens along your travels. Not only will you get the best ice cream ever - made with milk from our Island diary farmers - but you can also order a hearty, home-cooked meal.

<Psst> I personally visit my local diary bar, Kenny's, in Ellerslie, five out of seven nights a week in the summer.  YUMM!

Insider tip: If you're into dipped cones, be sure to get the Belgian Chocolate option. With flavours like, Salted Caramel, Red Velvet, or White Chocolate Oreo, these take your treat to a whole new level.

West Point Lighthouse

The West Point Lighthouse is a beacon of PEI history. 

Climb to the top for breathtaking views from the lantern deck, or explore the beaches and trails for a true Island adventure. 

You can stay in the lighthouse or a seaside campground, explore pristine beaches and Cedar Dunes, dine on local seafood while you watch the fishing boat that landed it.

Combining distinctive architecture, folklore, shipwrecks and dramatic scenery on the western entrance of the Northumberland Strait, the West Point Lighthouse began a second career as a lighthouse museum, country inn, restaurant and craft shop in 1984.

Insider tip: You can actually rent a room - INSIDE the lighthouse.  Reserve early as they sell out fast.

Green Gable Alpacas

Well you didn't really expect me to overlook myself, now did you?

Welcome to Green Gable Alpacas – my home and my sanctuary, a beautiful little farmstead that I share with a herd of 40ish crazy alpacas.

Nestled amidst PEI's rolling countryside, about 25 minutes west of Summerside, our farm offers visitors a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with our furry friends. 

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of our farm, or book an workshop in our fibre studio.

Don't forget to visit our cozy gift shop, where you'll find a selection of our alpaca yarns, socks and other alpaca wool products, perfect for bringing a piece of the Island home with you.
